Monthly Archives: August 2011
It didn’t work.
I was hoping that maybe getting my run on would help my hip. I was even armed with some awesome new songs on the ‘pod.
It was NOT the ticket.
The pain was even going down my leg now, so yes, definitely not the ticket.
I actually took the advice of one of my readers, Sara. She told me that she was having similar pain, and a chiropractor was able to “realign” her hip, and took care of her pain. So, I’ve got an appointment Friday.
Lets do it!!
I had some more of yesterdays soup, with a toasted multigrain roll for dinner. And now, I’m doing some laundry. I know how much you guys like reading about my exciting life.
Close, but No Cigar
You put in a good effort Yoplait. You tried. I’m not hatin’ on ya’. Your Yoplait Light flavors are the best around. Red Velvet Cake, Apple Turnover, Boston Cream Pie, yum, yum and yum.
But maybe the Greek Yogurt game just isn’t for you.
How can you compete with a heavy hitter like Chobani, or even the second in line, Dannon Oikos?
I brought a Yoplait greek yogurt to lunch today, and YUCK. I had to add a cookie just to make it edible. (this is a slight exaggeration, I added the cookie, because I deemed it healthy when mixed with yogurt)
It was the Honey Vanilla flavor, and it just was not my cup of yogurt tea.
What is my cup of tea, was all these desserts that somehow found a way into my work breakroom.
I managed to resist, with the exception of the yogurt cookie.
I knew that I had the remainder of Mondays Naan pizza to enjoy. And enjoy it I did.
I’m heading to the gym (for reals this time) with no game plan. I figured I’d just see how I feel when I get there.
And when I say “see how I feel”, I really mean “see how my hip feels”.
Asparagus Parmesan Soup
I had a hallf day from work, and instead of going to the gym for some running, :( I decided to make some soup.
I know, I know, it’s still summer. I wanted to make it while I could get my hands on some asparagus.
Asparagus Parmesan Soup.
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 garlic cloves, chopped
2 small onions, chopped
2 large bunches on asparagus, cut into 1 inch pieces.
4 1/2 cups vegetable broth (I bought chicken on accident, still worked)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
In a large pot, add the olive oil, garlic and onions. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, or until onions are softened.
Add the asparagus and broth, bring to a boil.Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
Puree the asparagus with an immersion blender*
*I don’t have an immersion blender, so I fished out all the veggies from the broth and threw it in the blender. Once well blended, I added it back to the broth.
Whisk in the sour cream and the parmesan cheese. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Makes approximately 6, 1 cup servings.
Adam didn’t really care for it, but ya can’t win them all, right?
Hippy Hippy Shake
My hip feels worse.
Maybe icing it wasn’t the answer. Tonight I’ll try heat.
I’m extrememly discouraged because my 5k is 19 days away, and this whole “not running for a week” thing is not helping me improve.
I’m convinced that running again will jar it back into place, but I know in my gut that it won’t.
And Adam always told me to take breaks from working out, becuase I’d be so much more upset if I had to take time off becuase of an injury. (TRUTH)
I’m upset. I’m VERY upset.
I want to do cardio, but alot of cardio machines involve moving your legs.
Upper body it is.
But for how long?
I’m working on a recipe for asparagus parmesan soup right now, so if it turns out good, I’ll share the recipe.
Ice, Ice, Baby
I skipped the gym today. I decided to stop ignoring my hip pain, and as we speak as you read, I’m lying on the couch with an ice pack on my hip.
Ouchie
We had a very easy dinner, in the form of some hot diggity dogs.
Some cucumbers with a little blue cheese,
and a whole lotta undocumented french fries. All while watching last nights episode of Jersey Shore.
Thanks to my friend Kim, I’m now officially hooked on some Shore action.
Mostly because it’s too ugly NOT to watch.
Ok, so what is up with that nasty strip of blonde mess Snookie’s rocking in her weave? And, Sammie really needs to remove those fake eyelashes before she starts bawling her eyes out to Ronnie. (Anyone else catch that?)
I promise I’ll try to keep this blog mostly about my diet and exercise. Or I may have to consider changing the name.
“Gagajerseyshoretrueblood and Beer” just doesn’t have as nice of a ring to it.
Pop Culture and Pizza
I didn’t stay up late enough to watch the VMA’s in their entirety.
“Hi, I’m Emmarie and I’m an old lady. 11pm is wayyyy to late to stay up”
I just have a few quick comments on what I did see.
First: Adele is amazing, and gorgeous!! How have I not purchased her album yet? I’m a little over “Rolling in the Deep” though.
Second: I LOVE Lady Gaga. I don’t care what you think of her.
Third: You call that ”tribute” to Britney Spears? I know my girl had some issues in the past, but her last album was killer. All that was, was an opening for Beyonce. Shame on you MTV. My girl Brit Brit, is still making you money, you should have shown a little more love.
AND, I also watched last nights episode of True Blood. I’m always dying to have someone to talk about it with afterwards. So, if anyone else watches it, and wants to have a discussion, comment below.
But for now……SPOILERS!
**************
I can’t believe Viking Eric is back! I’m not sure how I feel about Sookie being all ”I couldn’t imagine a world without Beeel”. I get it, you don’t want to see him die, but I don’t know gurl, Eric > Bill. Are you kidding me? If you’re not interested in Eric anymore, send him my way!
Also, good riddance Tommy! Your story lines were boring me. You must have had a death wish going to see Marcus anyway. AND, Debbie, you’s a dumb ho! Just sayin’
PHEW!! I’m glad I could get that out of my system.
I was, again, a bit rushed this morning. I had just enough time to scarf down an un-photographed bowl of cereal. I did, however, have enough time to cook my lunch.
Let me explain.
I purchased a Naan pizza from Wegmans yesterday. I planned on eating it for dinner last night, but was too full on all the junk food I consumed in my jammies. I threw it in the oven before work, that way, it would already be cooked and crispy, and would just need a warming at lunchtime.
It toasted to perfection, and was delicious to boot.
I’m heading over to get my sweat on after work, but I might just do a hodge podge of cardio. I haven’t ran since Wednesday, and my right hip still hurts.
I was just telling Adam how I kinda like this running thing. I’d like to keep it up after my 5k, but I don’t think I want to deal with week-long hip pain after a 3 mile run.
Lawn Fete Farewell
Last night was the last lawn fete of the summer.
I’ll miss some of the “characters” of the beer tents. So long guy in the wolf shirt. Peace out couple with matching mullets. See ya next summer!
Adam and I ran a few errands, which got me out of my pajama pants for all of an hour, but don’t worry, jammies are back on!
With the close of summer, I am LOVING a Sunday with no plans. And, Fantasy Football season is in full swing, so I am a Fantasy widow. I’m laying on the couch with my puppy-love. I’ve already watched all my dvr’d tv garbage, and I just finished Limitless, with Bradley Cooper. Yummy!
I’m spending the remainder of my day just like this. I’ve got some more TV to watch. Priorities People!
The MTV Video Music Awards are on tonight, YAY!!
“Hi, my name is Emmarie, and I’m 17 years old”
**I’m also super psyched to show you the Punta Cana post on the Travel page. Check it out!**
We Were The First Losers
Last night was our last night of Jarts. Our summer season is over.
Special Congrats to Kim and Paul who won this year!
Adam and I came in second place. WAH WAHHHH!
I did have a few of these, to help us get there,
so all in all, it wasn’t a bad night.
I was up bright and early to go and get my nails did.
And I am LOVING my new gelish polish.
I considered going out for a run this morning, but my right hip has been bothering me lately, and I don’t want to aggravate even more.
Besides, Tara made me an extra special “made with love” hula hoop that I cannot wait to use. And as I’ve mentioned before, hula hooping has some major benefits.
And I have a bunch of different “at home” exercise options, so I really have no excuse to get something in today.
I’ll be heading over to a lawn fete later this evening. It’s the last one of the summer. :(
We still got Labor Day though, right? The Last Hurrah!
Finally, A Beauty Post
I’m not sure if any of you really noticed that I have a “Beauty” tab along the top of my page.
I originally intended to make that a place where I would post makeup tips, some pictures of my favorite make applications, and maybe even some how- to videos.
I still plan on it, so hold tight.
For the meantime, I added a list of my favorite beauty products, and my small, personal review of each item.
Check it out!
Angry Tummy and Jello Shots
**These two things are unrelated……for now.
Right after hitting publish last night, I shook my tailfeather into the kitchen to start making some Jello Shots!
After getting a few done, in different colors, Adam had a suggestion.
“What if you made a rainbow of colors?”
OOOOOHHHHHH YESSSS!!
I love a rainbow…
So does this guy….
“What does it mean?”
After finally dragging my ass to bed, I woke up pretty early, with my stomach screaming at me “FEED ME SEYMORE….UGH, EMMARIE”
I got ready for work as usual until I just couldn’t take it anymore. I made myself a breakfast sandwich, with a fried egg and a slice of swiss on a sandwich thin. I popped it into the panini maker, just to give everything a gooey, crunchy finish.
Kinda wish I made two.
